Canadian Abducted In Burkina Faso, Found Brutally Killed

Kirk Woodman, a Canadian geologist residing in Burkina Faso have been found dead. According to sources, Kirk Woodman was abducted by some gunmen on Tuesday from a mining site located in the Northern part of Burkina Faso.



The Canadian Foreign Ministry has expressed deep sadness. The Canadian Foreign Ministry stated in its official Twitter account earlier today that it condemns those responsible for the dastardly act, also stating that they are working hand in had with the Burkina Faso government to bring the culprits to justice.

Little is known about Kirk Woodman, but his son Matt Woodman, who currently works as a reporter for the Canadian Television in Edmonton has described him as "a loving and hardworking man husband, father, and brother", hes said this in an interview with CBC News.

Earlier this month, a Canadian woman and an Italian man were also abducted in Burkina Faso. The relations of Edith Blais, 34, and Luca Acchetto were believed to travel to Burkina Faso's neighbouring country,Togo, together for humanitarian aids but never arrived.

24 Year Old Mother Allegedly Kills Her Four Children

A 24 year old South African mother Zinhle Maditla, who have been accused of killing her four children have been sent for a mental observation.  Her children is aged 8, 7, 3 and 1 year old respectively.

This was ordered at the Witbank Magistrate Court on Monday after she allegedly snubbed her bail grant. The defendant's lawyer had continuously said that his client was not in her right state of mind when during the incident asking that Zinhle Maditla to be evaluated by Psychiatrists and psychologists.

The Magistrate Judge, however, granted the application that Maditla to be evaluated. Maditla is faced with four counts in murder in relating to the killing of her four children.

A Polish Mayor Has Died After Being Stabbed On Stage At A Charity Event

Pawel Adamowicz, a 53 year old polish politician serving as the mayor of Gdansk in Poland has died after being stabbed on stage at a charity event attended by hundreds of people on Sunday. He was stabbed in the area of his heart.

The Mayor had been rushed to a hospital where he had five hours of surgery but unfortunately passed away on Monday.

According to the Police, the assassin is a 27 year old man with a criminal record including various carried out bank robberies, it is however, believed that the suspect gained access to the stage through a press pass. The name of the assassin is still unknown.

According to TVN footage, it showed the assassin after stabbing Adamowicz, yelling that he had wrongly arrested and jailed by the previous government led by Adamowicz's political party, Civic Platform.

Pawel Adamowicz was elected a member of the city council in Gdansk in 1990 and held it until 1998, when he was elected Mayor of Gdansk.

Meanwhile, the President of the Europeon Council Donald Tusk has expressed his deep condolences in his Twitter account, he described him as "a man of solidarity". See Tweet:

Qatar Sets $20 Million Fund To Help Move Out African Refugees In Libya


The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had on Sunday, put up a fund of $20 Million to help evacuate African refugees in Libya back to their home country.

According to the Qatari News Agency, this move was part of the Emir's vision for supporting and giving humanitarian aids to suffering African Union(AU) Countries.

The Emir's decision coincided with a visit by the AU commission Chairman Moussa Faki to Doha on Sunday. The two sides discussed on strengthening the relationship between the AU and Qatar.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) report says that about 1.3 Million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Libya, a large percentage of the people across the country live in extreme poverty.

UNHCR report also states that Libya host 43, 113 refugees who are registered with UNHCR. Refugees are travelling together with migrants through risky and unsafe routes that leads to Europe. 90% of those who cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe depart from Libya.

NBA Describes Onnoghen's Trial As An Assault Of The Judiciary

The Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) has said that the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen is an of the judiciary. Onnoghen will be arraigned before the code of conduct tribunal on Monday for reportedly failing to declare its assets and also maintaining several domiciliary bank accounts.




In a statement signed by the NBA President Paul Usoro(SAN), who said that that the trial of the Chief Justice does not follow the rule of law, hence, should be stopped..

The NBA, also described the speed at which the case is being handled, claiming that all due protocols have been intentionally left unobserved.

The NBA also said that the National Judiciary Commission(NJC) was not informed about the charges against Onnoghen. The association called on the Federal Government to stop degradsing the rule of law.

Somalia Kicks Out Its UN Envoy

The United Nations top official to Somalia Mr Nicholas Haysom, have been ordered to leave Somalia. This was ordered by the Somalian Government following accusations that the Diplomat in Somalia violated the agency's standards by acting like the country's leader.

Mr Haysom had previously sent a letter to the Interior Security Minister on December 30th.

In the letter, he expressed his concerns over the Country's security, questioning the legal basis of the arrest of the former deputy leader of Somalia's main terrorist organisation Al-shabab Mukthar Robow on December 13th, the death of 15 citizens on the 13th, 14th and 15th of December and the arrest of approximately 300 people involved in protests on the 13th, 14th an 15th of December.

The Somalian Internal Security Ministry stated that Mukthar Robow was arrested after there were suspicions that he brought back more militiamen and weapons back to the Southern city of Baidoa.

Six People Reported Dead In A Denmark Train Crash

Denmark Train Crash

Six people have been reported dead after a cargo train collided with a passenger train on the Great Belt Bridge which connect the islands of Zealand, where the capital Copenhagen is located an Funen. The crash occurred around 8:00 local time(7:00GMT).

According to local reports, it is believed that a tarpaulin from a freight train hit the passenger plane during a heavy storm, thereby forcing it to brake suddenly.

Meanwhile, Authorities have not been able to provide details for the crash, but rectified that an object hit the train.
