Artifacts taken from Africa to be returned back
Around ninety percent of Africa's artistic heritage is currently held outside the continent and now report commissioned by French President Emmanuel Macron says the majority of those artifacts currently held in French museums should be sent back to their countries of origin.
"I cannot accept that a large part of the cultural heritage of several African countries resides in France, there are historical explanations but there is no valuable, durable and unconditional justification", President Macron said while speaking in Burkina Faso last year.
The debate of the restitution African arts has raged for years and the President's speech raised hopes among African museum directors that national artifacts can be returned to the continent. The reports recommends a change in trans lo which currently prevents this work from leaving French territory.
